Marvelous Monday

Did you get a chance to see The Lorax?

I saw it with my children and it is just a fantastic movie, and a very good adaptation of the book.

The story reminds us that we need to socially and ecologically conscious about the decisions we make.

For children the story with its beautiful trufulla trees (which I think look like cotton candy) has some wonderful imagery.

After they saw the movie my five year old, Andrew, was upset that someone would want to do so much harm.  For him it is just second nature to want to protect the environment.

I am thankful that he saw a deeper meaning in the movie (conserve what you have) and didn't just enjoy it for its musical numbers.

In that vein I think Andrew would be quite happy with Conscious Box and the way they do business.

Conscious Box is a monthly subscription service which mails it subscribers a box chock full of goodies (from food items, to drink mixes, to hand sanitizer).

Previous boxes have included products from:

Mate Factor
Natural Calm
Dr. Cleangreen

The companies that produce the products chosen are held to a very high ethical, sustainable, and honest businesses that create very pure products.

Conscious Box is concerned not only that the products you receive be of a high standard but that also the box you receive them in be held high.  The boxes are 100% post consumer recycled cardboard.  They encourage all of their subscribers to "up-cycle" (or find a new purpose) for their box.

If you post a picture on Facebook you receive an extra item in the next months box.

I've seen people get pretty creative and fashion their boxes into planters, picture frames, and even a box for craft supplies.

But you know at my house even the rafia tie gets used (a great headband):

Now that I've talked them up a little I want to give you a chance to win a Conscious Box for July.

I will be running the giveaway until Thursday June 28th and to enter you just need to use the rafflecopter form below.

Good luck to you all!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

  1. I went with my daughter's 1st grade class on a field trip when the movie came out. I was so glad when the movie ended and my daughter turned to me and said we need to be careful not to do that to out trees because that would be very sad. It's a big but really important message for kids to learn!

  2. The Lorax sounds like a wonderful movie! I must check out whether it's available over here yet as I'd love to see it (and I'm sure Lil' L would too).
What a fantastic gift you're giving away this month! I'm guessing that it's restricted to US only, so I won't add my name and mess up your rafflcopter ;) Conscious Box sounds like a wonderful idea. I wonder if we have anything similar over here? It would make a great gift for friends.

  3. I saw the preview for this movie, but haven't actually managed to see the movie yet. I'm glad to hear that it's good.

  4. We never saw the movie, but we've read the book for years. It's my favorite by Dr. Seuss.

    Let's see...sustainable practices...

All food waste goes to the chickens instead of the trash. All chicken waste and hay goes into a compost pile to be used on our garden as fertilizer.

We've adapted to keeping the temperature in the house very high in the summer and very low in the winter to use less energy. Along the same lines - we've learned to conserve our gas more by combining errands into one day instead of multiple days.

There's more, but that would require me to think and it's almost the weekend. Not gonna happen. :o)
