Book Review: Roadfood

So are you thinking about a road trip in the United States?

Have you wondered what in the world am I going to eat?

Have no fear Roadfood is here

This is the 10th edition of this book and it is fabulously written and organized.

The book is grouped by region of the country and then a directory of good eats is provided for each state.

What makes the book useful beyond just naming the restaurants is that they give a paragraph, or more, description as well as all pertinent information (address, phone number, and web page).

The books is a fun time to read even if you aren't planning a trip...myself I love learning about different places to eat.

So be sure to pick up a copy of peruse all of the options out there.

The link above the book does take you to Amazon...BUT it is not an affiliate link and I will receive no compensation should you purchase through it.

I do want to disclose that I was provided a copy of this book for review through Blogging for Books.

The Weekend is Here...almost

Happy Friday to one and all!

We have made it through another week and the weekend is almost upon us.

To say I am excited about this is an understatement.

This weekend I am running in a fun event

I am doing my third 5k in a months time and this one is...wait for it...

AT THE BEACH!

You really can't beat having a weekend vacation to the beach and pairing it with a fun event like this.

At the finish line you get boas and a tiara to "diva" up your running attire:

I am pretty certain my daughter Caroline is going to want my swag...but I am a sucker for that girl so I will probably give it to her.

I mean after all could you say no to this face?  Yeah  me neither.

I am going to take a page out of Laura's book and pack as much of our food as possible.  That way I know we will be eating healthy and won't have to resort to eating at restaurants that might not be on the "approved" list.

I got some of my prep work done last night be making a loaf of banana bread and sandwich bread (it all just tastes better homemade).  I need to pick out snacks and pack the suitcases and then we should be ready.

What sort of fun do you have planned this weekend?

Does it involve any exercise?  If you are looking for a fun exercise challenge I am participating in a squat challenge without about 100 of my co-workers.

Here is the chart if you would like to give it a try:

Bean - Restaurant Review

Last week I went to Charlotte, NC for a 3 day class in Uptown Charlotte (I think they call it that to be pretentious).

Anyway downtown was lovely and had some vegan options for me...however I do like to branch out when I am in a different city and sample from local restaurants.

While in town I tried Bean Vegan Cuisine.

If you happen to go please do not be discouraged by the outside (it looks a bit like an 80's pizza joint), it could use a little renovation to bring it a fresh new look.

However the outside aside the food was delicious.

I tried their BBQ tofu sandwich with sides of potato salad and fruit salad.

I didn't actually get to eat the fruit salad with dinner (no worries I saved it for breakfast) because I wanted to save room for the carrot cake cupcake.

The sandwich was perfect.  The tofu strips were crunchy and I actually thought for half a second that they might actually be chicken (upon further inspection I realized they were not).

The BBQ sauce was a little sweet and wasn't added in such copious amounts that all you tasted was sauce.

The veggies to go on top were fresh and crisp making for a delicious sandwich.

The potato salad though left something to be desired.

It was a bit watery and lacked flavor (a pinch of salt may have helped).

I didn't enjoy it so I didn't bother to finish it.

The perfect end to the meal though was the cupcake.

A perfectly spiced cake with delicious buttercream on top...mmm scrumptious.

When you are someplace new do you go to a local restaurant or do you stick to your favorite chains?

What is the dream?

What a lot of people are always in search of and few reach.

Having just discovered Vanessa Kimbell, who in fact is living her dream, I have been inspired to search out what it means to me to be "living the dream."

My dream would have many layers, some of which have been realized.

Get married--check

Have children--check, check, and check (I have 3)

Write a blog--check

And some which have not

Write a cookbook

Travel the world

Live in a foreign country (just need to decide where..Florence looks nice)

For many this bucket list of ideals is hard to incapsulate.

For me those 6 items above are my top dreams.

I decided 3 weeks ago, after much hemming and hawing (in other words my husband was tired of hearing me talk about it), to start blogging.

For me it was a desire to share information that made me want to create a blog, naturally I would like to be successful.

I love the idea of being healthier and searching out ways to keep myself, and my family, healthy.

I regularly Google ways to recreate items typically purchased at the grocery store.
For example mosquitoes in my backyard are a bit of a problem.  In an effort to not douse ourselves with chemicals my husband and I searched out a natural remedy (vodka based) to help.

It was a cheap and effective solution.

I will continue to dream and will make every effort to see my dreams through.

Do you have a dream?  If so what is it?

Just want to throw in a frugal find for today: Family Fun magazine for free.  Sign up for Tippr and you will receive a $5 credit.  Low and behold Family Fun is a deal here for $5.  The credit cancels out the cost and there you go.

One last additional tidbit.  I am in the running to be included in the top 25 Family Blogs on Circle of Moms.  If you could find it in your heart to send me some love, and a vote, I would greatly appreciate it.
